Fathers of Influence
We don’t know the young mans name, but he has become a famous figure in every Bible
based church around the world. We refer to him as the prodigal son. His legacy comes from his determination to turn his mistakes into building blocks to become a better person. He went from a miserable pig pen to a mansion filled with celebration and provision.
We read in Luke 15-20-24, And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.
The true hero of the story is the father. He never gave up on his son. He gave mercy when he probably should have responded differently. But this is exactly how our Heavenly Father responds to us every day. We are so blessed to know Jesus will forgive us and restore us.
Think about the father’s impact in this story. Either way, good or bad, the father held the young mans future in his hands.
The role of a father must not be taken lightly. It could be said “As the father goes, so goes the nation”.
So to every Father, Thank you for choosing to be a Godly father. A father that responds in the way that God would.
Happy Fathers Day
