Cross Persecution
And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. (Galatians 5:11)
Thought For Today:
One of the things about the cross is that it will create persecution and cause offense. You see, most people do not understand that when you preach or teach the true doctrine of Christianity, you are preaching the cross. The only way you can stop others from persecuting the church is to stop preaching repentance. If a church stops preaching against sin, it is usually not persecuted, and it's normally this type of church that lets things go. But as long as they preach and teach the true doctrine of the cross, persecution will come. This is why Paul faced so much opposition. His message was the cross. He told the church at Corinth, "For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:17-18). Now, some have taken this verse and said that baptism isn't important. No, that's not what Paul is saying. What Paul is saying is that the charge given to him, as well as to you and me, is and was to preach the gospel. Baptism is useless if one does not understand the gospel and the purpose/reason they are being baptized. It is essential for one to have the gospel explained to them before they are baptized. It may seem foolish to preach about the cross, but if one is saved, then it gives them power. So let me encourage you, the cross still makes a difference. So keep preaching it even though some may not believe.
