Let The Thing Be Pressed

Philippians 3:10-14

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Thought For Today:

During the Civil War, as the Union Soldiers were closing in on the Confederate Soldiers around Appomattox, Virginia, General Grant sent President Lincoln a telegram that said, "If the thing be pressed, it will surrender." President Lincoln's reply was, "Then let the thing be pressed."

Paul said, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." If there has ever been a time for Christians to press on, the time is now. Now is not the time to sit back and wonder when will Jesus return. Now is the time to give it your all and press towards the mark. Now is the time to renew your energy, get your second wind, and turn it on. The finish line is near. Now is not the time to say that I can't do it. Now is the time to say as Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13). Now is not the time to weep and cry over hurt feelings, being misunderstood, and wrong choices. Now is the time to press on. Now is the time to link arms with Jesus and say, "Let the thing be pressed."
