Prepared For The Horses
“If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?” (Jeremiah 12:5)
Thought for Today
Matthew Henry explains that if small troubles lead us to bitter complaints, how will we respond when greater trials come? He describes the “horsemen” as far more severe troubles and asks a searching question: if we collapse under lesser difficulties, what will we do when greater ones arrive?
When life wears you down, how do you respond? Do you become a complainer, or do you continue to trust and rely on God? Complaining never lifts the burden; it only makes the heart heavier.
Jesus said we would speak with new tongues. While this points to the filling of the Holy Ghost, it also reminds us that the Holy Ghost shapes the way we speak. With His help, we can choose words that build up rather than tear down.
Scripture reminds us that God has given us power:
· Jesus said He gives us power (Luke 10:19).
· We receive power when the Holy Ghost comes upon us (Acts 1:8).
· “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
Because of that power within us, we can face hardship with faith, endurance, and a spirit that encourages others. Instead of being overcome by weariness, we can stand firm and respond in a way that honors God.
