Seeking the City God Has Prepared

"By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God" (Hebrews 11:8-10).

When God called Abraham, he responded with faith and obedience, setting out in hope of the heavenly city. He gave his life wholeheartedly to God and was lovingly known as God’s friend. In the same way, when God calls us, He invites us to trust Him with an undivided heart, follow Abraham’s faithful example, and seek the heavenly city whose Builder and Maker is God. Jesus has already gone before us to prepare a place for us (John 14:1-4). Like the people of Babel, we are called to build—not with bricks, but through lives of faith and righteousness. As we seek God earnestly with our whole heart, we can rest in the promise that He will faithfully lead us home.
