The Paraclete Is Present
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: and ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning (John 15:26-27).
Thought For Today:
A little girl came home from Sunday school, and her mother asked her what she remembered about the preacher’s sermon. To her surprise, the little girl said, “The preacher said, don’t worry; you'll get your quilt.” The mother was taken aback at the girl’s comment, “Don’t worry, you’ll get your quilt.” So, the mother contacted the pastor to ask what he had taught on, and the pastor told her that the title of my message was “Your Comforter Will Come.” It’s amazing what children think they hear us say!
Today, we are not talking about quilt making; we are talking about the Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, the Comforter. Jesus told His disciples, “When the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.”
It’s a sad thing to see a child who has no mother or father. We call children who have no parents present in their lives orphans. These orphans are forced to be placed in “Foster Care”. Aren’t you glad that Jesus did not leave us to be Orphans?
Before His ascension, Jesus promised His disciples that they would not be left alone. He would send the Comforter, the Paraclete, meaning "one who is called alongside to help". This personal presence of the Holy Spirit, which is God Himself living within believers, is our helper in times of weakness and affliction.
As the Spirit of Truth, the Comforter guides us and reminds us of Christ's teachings. The comforter serves as our Guide and Teacher, directing us in accordance with God's will. The comforter is our Intercessor, praying for us when we lack the words.
I don’t know where I would be without the Holy Ghost (comforter) in my life.
