Who Are You Working For

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him... And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;" (Colossians 3:17; 23).

Thought For Today:
Have you ever wondered what truly constitutes a hard day's work? Whether it's digging ditches or carefully auditing someone's financial records, each task has its own challenges. These days, when I ask people how they're doing, their first response is often, "Busy!" I then ask what they're busy with, but I usually find myself still waiting to hear what exactly keeps them so occupied. Sometimes, it feels like a way to seem more hardworking than we actually are. Paul reminds us that whatever we do—whether in speech or action—should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus. If that’s the case, then we shouldn’t be overwhelmed by busyness, because we are working alongside Him, who bears the load for us. Jesus invites us, saying, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30). Many Christians comfort themselves with the phrase, "He won't put more on you than you can handle!" But if that’s true, then no Christian should be too busy to meet with others, share the gospel, teach a home Bible study, or attend church, because God knows exactly what we can handle. If you find yourself consistently overwhelmed and too busy, it might be worth considering who your true employer is—because it’s certainly not Jesus.
